Morie Kaneko, Ph.D.
She works at the Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies and the Center for African Area Studies, Kyoto University. She started her first field work in Aomori, Japan in 1996. Since 1998, she has been conducting research on the cultural transmission among women potters in Ethiopia. Since 2006, she has been working on her research on local knowledge in Africa, expanding her research focus to include the processing and distribution of agricultural products and the production of souvenirs using local materials. Since 2008, she has also engaged with local people to start handy craft association, such as creating hand-made paper made from the fiber of local plant in the study area with her colleagues. Since 2017, she has been working with graduate students and research fellows to further broaden the scope of her research, including the possibility of health care by locals in communities, the penetration of modern schooling and the creating livelihood opportunities, in the activities of the es-project.
